Abstract

Software requirement traceability from use cases to test cases is an important practice for ensuring that user interactions, business workflows, and functional requirements are properly verified during testing. In enterprise software projects, use cases describe how users interact with the system, while test cases confirm whether those interactions are correctly implemented. Poor traceability can lead to missed scenarios, incomplete test coverage, unclear validation criteria, repeated defects, and weak release confidence. This article discusses how structured traceability links use case steps, actors, preconditions, alternative flows, exception paths, acceptance criteria, and related test cases. It explains the role of traceability matrices, use case reviews, test scenario mapping, defect linkage, and requirement coverage analysis in improving verification quality. The article also highlights common challenges such as incomplete use case descriptions, changing requirements, duplicate test cases, missing negative scenarios, and poor coordination between analysts and testers. A structured traceability approach is presented to improve coverage visibility, reduce testing gaps, support impact analysis, and strengthen software quality assurance. The study concludes that effective traceability from use cases to test cases improves functional validation, reduces rework, and supports reliable delivery of enterprise software systems.
