Abstract

Static code analysis is important for improving software quality in Java applications because it helps identify defects, coding violations, security weaknesses, complexity issues, and maintainability problems before runtime execution. Java applications often include large class structures, layered services, external libraries, database access logic, and repeated maintenance changes, which can gradually introduce hidden design and code-level risks. Traditional testing methods detect failures during execution, but they may not reveal unused code, unsafe patterns, excessive coupling, duplicated logic, or violation of coding standards. This article focuses on the role of static code analysis in improving Java software quality by examining how automated inspection tools can evaluate syntax quality, object-oriented metrics, dependency structures, exception handling, security rules, and code smells. The study discusses how static analysis results can support early defect detection, refactoring decisions, developer feedback, and continuous integration workflows. The article concludes that systematic static code analysis can reduce technical debt, improve maintainability, strengthen security, and support more reliable Java application development.
